Well, I’m pretty sure I’ve bitten off just about as much as I can chew this time…
We’re about 80% done moving in to our new place in Colorado, and tomorrow is the first day of school. Most of our stuff is out of the box, but much of it is still looking for a home. Luckily, my wife loves organizing, and also doesn’t have to bring work home, so she’s been grinding through finding everything its perfect nook or cranny. Hopefully things will settle down soon.
Needless to say, with stuff still up in the air at home, I’m not in an ideal state of mind for embarking on the new (and significant) challenge that my new high school presents. But this is how we get better, right? I’m sure I’ll look back on this time as a period of significant growth, the time when I set the bar right at the top of my capacity, and nonetheless survived and came out stronger and more capable. At least, that’s my hope!
Enough dallying with this blog, I should really turn my attention back to the curricula ahead of me. I bought myself a little time by making the first day or two get-to-know-you and mindset activities (thanks youcubed.org!), but as usual, I’d love to get a little farther ahead of the actual “content”. Well, and honestly, it’s probably a good way to start the year – the metacognitive aspects notwithstanding, it’s also possible that my classes may see a great deal of turnover in the next week, so avoiding “content” and focusing on general Math Student Development seems ideal.
